This week we have been celebrating Bonfire Night and teaching children about fire safety. We have been talking about home experiences and had a bonfire in setting to allow children to understand how to enjoy fire safely in a controlled environment. Each child had a sparkler and the importance of wearing gloves and how to put them out correctly was modelled.

One of many park visits

We visit the local park frequently. The children enjoy enhancing their physical development and learning to take risks in a safe environment. It is vital that children have regular opportunities to enhance their physical skills and explore new places. It also encourages the to manage risks and experiment with different ways of moving, which then promotes healthy brain development and health.

Planting

In the past few weeks, we have been teaching the children all about growth. They have been planting different seeds and placing them in the sun and watered them daily. They have had the opportunity to watch as the plants have been sprouting into flowers and vegetables in the hope of being able to try our own home grown produce.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar - Animated Film

The Animal Boogie

The children in class one have a significant interest in animals and sensory play activities. This week we have focused this with the animal boogie book and song, and used puppets to support understanding of the animals that feature throughout the story.

Children have explored paint and printing, danced and sang to the book, and explored with different ways of moving. This has helped children settle into preschool, experiment with different ways of moving, learn new animals and the sounds they make, improved listening and attention skills, and allowed children to develop their imaginative play skills.
